If the government is cracking down on email spam, why don't they crack down on junk snail mail?

I just wonder what's the difference between people bothering me through my email and people bothering me through my post? I hate both.

you can sing up for a do not mail list now too, it works pretty well, I have a few friends who have and they say the same

Reply:you got the answer,the government makes money. i'll give you a solution for some of it. take any pre-paid envelope they send in the junk and mail it back to them empty.
Reply:Junk snail mail isn't as much of a problem, since it costs companies money in postage to send it. If we found a way to charge people for sending us unwanted e-mails, then e-mail spam would decrease too.

Reply:Oh that's easy. The government gets paid for the postage on the spam in your mailbox, but they haven't found a way to tax email spam yet, so they're against it.
